Happiness = Baby Sleeps for 12 Hours Straight

This picture features Claire on Daddy's lap in a store while Mommy tried on SHOES :) Best day EVER! Ha! Must've been nap time. For shame. Now we really try not to disrupt her schedule, but I guess that only gets harder as you have more kids, right?

She did it. Starting two nights ago. And hasn't stopped since. She is sleeping through the night!!! It took about 3 days of training (I used the "Ferber" method) and now she sleeps like a PRO!! I did not think it would be so easy!

Claire was waking up once during the night and then would wake again at 5am, and after a feeding, sleep til 7. So, to stop that, at first we just gave her a bottle of water when she'd wake...she did NOT like that! (That was the suggestion from my absolute FAVORITE baby how-to book, "Baby 411" - basically if she's getting water when she wakes up, she's really not going to feel inclined to wake up anymore for that!) Then, I just started going in, not picking her up, consoling her as I usually do using the Ferber method and finally, she started not waking up at all! And even when she does wake up at 7 or a little earlier, she just plays in her crib til I come in and get her.

What is ALSO awesome is that she now goes down for her naps usually without even crying! And if she does cry at all, she'll cry out for like 5-10 seconds and then I don't hear a peep out of her. She's also on a great schedule that includes two 2-hr. naps, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and then a 30 min. catnap in the late afternoon. I also started putting her down at 7 instead of 8, and that has been good.

Anyway, it's a pretty great milestone! I was really worried I wouldn't have the stamina to hear her crying, but seriously, before this I tried to just have her cry it out, and she'd cry for a LOT longer. But, with the Ferber method, since you go in in intervals to reassure her you're there, she would go to sleep (even in the beginning when I was just starting to train her) right after I'd come in the first time. It's like she just wanted to know I wasn't abandoning her or something, and she was fine.

Anyway, that's the big news.

That is great news!!! There is nothing like a baby Finally sleeping through the night. Dylan is about the same kind of slpeeper, never cries when going to sleep or when he wakes up. It is great!. It's good to train them young. You did the right thing. Enjoy your sleep!!!
